Child welfare

Harris has assisted small and large municipalities in Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane since our inception in the 1920s.

When the new Child Welfare Act was introduced in Norway in 1992 and instructed municipalities to have legal representation when bringing forced removal cases and cases relating to the takeover of care, we started providing assistance to municipalities in this area of law.

Over the past 25 years, Harris has assisted a number of municipalities in bringing and finalising child welfare cases before the county social welfare board and ordinary courts. We undertake both one-off and ongoing assignments with the purpose of protecting children’s rights, whether it pertains to ensuring they get the proper care (Section 4-12 cases) or adequate treatment in an institution (Section 4-24 cases).
